ART – PAGE 2 SUMMER SHOW
The bright side of Knightsbridge’s Brompton Road will add a new, ephemeral rose to its garden, with the opening of Page 2 SummerShow, curated by Daniela Bianco and involving a british-finnish group of three London based artists: Paul Robinson, Graham Carrick and Anssi Sojakka (12 August-10 September), whose works focus on mixed media, photography and video. An unusual sensitivity to capture the emotions of everyday life is at the very base of the whole work of the artists, individually and as a group, while the file rouge of the exhibition seems to be the puzzling irony generated by contrasts. Opposing to a common conceptual trend that analises the relations between the human form and the environment, this group’s intentions are mainly focusing on the representation of a figurative interior world, and of the way in which space and time are individually perceived.There’s also space for allegories and colour symbolisms in these story-telling paintings. In the archetypical and intriguing works of Graham, images take form from the accumulation of colours and shapes of space and mind, and lead to a world of memories and dreams depicted in fauve-look like colours. Polyhedric Anssi re-elaborates the creative paths of the impressionist artists whom he appears to inspire to: his paintings are made of images that derive from snapshot photography, as casual portraits of everyday life and the gap between what we would expect to see and wat we actually see is surprising and stimulating. The The idea of destruction, decay and regeneration underlying this concept also influences Paul, both in his paintings created through a process of non-sequential layering of different media, and in his ‘Pink Bear Project’, involving childhood memories.

La parte piu’ scintillante di Brompton Road, nel quartiere londinese di Knightsbridge, sta per aggiungere una nuova, effimera rosa al suo giardino, con l’apertura dal 12 agosto al 10 settembre di Page 2 SummerShow, mostra a cura di Daniela Bianco, che espone mixed media, foto e video del gruppo formato da Paul Robinson, Graham Carrick and Anssi Sojakka. L’intero lavoro di questi artisti, individualmente e come gruppo, si fonda sulla volontà di catturare le emozioni della vita di tutti I giorni, di rappresentare la dimensione intima del quotidiano, mentre la sottile ironia generata dai contrasti, formali e concettuali, fa da fil rouge allo show. In opposizione ad un trend generale che si concentra sul rapporto tra forma umana e spazio, questi artisti intendono dar forma alla loro personale visione interiore del tempo e dello spazio circostante, attraverso la figuratività dell’immagine. In queste pitture ‘narrative’ c’è anche spazio per allegorie e simbolismi! Nell’opera intrigante e archetipica di Graham, le immagini prendono forma nell’accumulazione di forme e colori reali e mentali, creando un mondo onirico dipinto nei colori dei Fauves. Il poliedrico Anssi rielabora I percorsi creativi dei suoi modelli dichiarati, dipingendo sulla base di immagini ricavate da foto istantanee da lui stesso scattate; sono ritratti apparentemente casuali, dove l’idiosincrasia tra ciò che ci aspetteremmo di vedere e ciò che realmente percepiamo, genera sorpresa curiosità. L’idea di decadenza e rigenerazione che sottende questo approccio influenza anche il lavoro di Paul, sia nei suoi dipinti creati attraverso la sovrapposizione ’scomposta’ di strati di diversi media, che nel suo ‘Pink Bear Project’, che coinvolge infantili memorie.
